Elerosse

Page history last edited by Brian Dupuis 10 years ago

Character pages like this are not always up to date. If in conflict, OpenRPG's nodes take precedent!

Elerosse Tasardur is Eclipse's frontline and wilderness expert, an undisputed master of the double scimitar, and the center of an ever-deepening mystery of epic proportions. He's played by Seishi.

(This section is temporary and will be edited later. It currently just emphasizes the strongest salient points about his description.)

The most striking visual feature about Elerosse at rest is his unnatural paleness, almost as if his skin and hair have been bleached. He usually hides this gaunt exterior behind the cold, crystalline mask of a fallen foe.

Echoes of the Past?

Left to right: The Rider, The Exile, Lord Tassardur, Elsar'Kun

Elerosse was discovered in the days following the Mourning wandering alone amongst the dead-grey mists surrounding the remnants of Cyre, with no memory of anything except his name. Time and circumstance drew him together with Eclipse. On their first mission together, he discovered the Talaen Kara, a very special double scimitar, and a strange bond appeared to form. Since then, hints about the truth of his past have been surfacing - a past that, if uncovered, may change the face of Khorvaire... and beyond.

Taciturn and focused, Elerosse is a devastating force of reckoning on the battlefield. (More about his tactics and mannerisms, perhaps a summary of what we know so far of his history? Or should that go on a separate page?)

Note: Many events, first revealed at the climax of We Have To Stop Meeting Like This, and later explained, have reshaped Elerosse's personality somewhat.

Powerful Enemies:

The true depths of this flaw are yet to be plumbed, but basically, a ridiculous amount of the world is out for his head.

This may or may not be particularly true of the Houses of Shadow.

Generally speaking, if Elerosse is recognized in nearly any part of Khorvaire, problems will likely follow.

Given his distinctive appearance, this is easier said than done (hence the mindarmor mask).

Dreamworld Power: Because it's his dream, he doesn't manifest singular powers like a guest does. Rather, the deeper we go into the Darkest Dreams arc, the more abilities become available.

  • Blade Guide: The Blade Guide and corresponding features became available after the first, the echo of 'Rosse. Presumably he retains this ability in the waking world.
  • Heart of the Desert: An increase to Constitution and immunity to fatigue is available after the second, the echo of The Rider.
  • Patience of the Exile:  The ability to Spot weaknesses in enemy defenses and strike true is available after the third, the echo of The Exile.
  • Valor of the Patriarch: Additional maneuvers (one ready, three known) are available after the fourth, the echo of Lord Tassardur.
  • It's unknown what lurks behind the echo of Elsar'kun...

Class Notes

  • Sublime Way variant Ranger used, with the Steel Hunter tradition. (Iron Heart and Tiger Claw access.)
  • Revenant Blade slightly modified for sublime ranger; see below.
  • Eternal Blade slightly modified: No access to White Raven, replace all mentions of Devoted Spirit with Tiger Claw (including prerequisites and Eternal Training).

Feature Notes

  • Bladebearer of the Valenar: When Elerosse spends an action point to augment an attack with a Valenar weapon, he deals bonus damage equal to the attack's result. Valenar weapons share feats, and gain a +1 damage bonus when used while mounted.
  • Animal Companion: Hawk. Effective druid level 5th.
  • Forgotten Memories: Elerosse can meditate and gain flashes of insight into his past, remembering his former martial prowess. (The Ancestral Guidance class feature by any other name.)
    • Elerosse typically recalls Power Attack; the other feats are often Weapon Specialization and Alertness (but vary from time to time).
  • Ranger Training: Revenant levels stack with ranger when determining animal companion strength and ranger initiator level (instead of half, as normal).
  • Shadow of the Past: Bonus on stealth-related skill checks equal to Revenant class level.
  • Legendary Force: Elerosse treats both ends of the double scimitar as two-handed weapons.
  • Blade Guide: Elerosse can commune with echoes of his past lives to further his training or guide his blade in battle. Most of his later class features depend on this ability. (His guide is an echo of his life immediately previous to the game's start. The first Darkest Dreams arc depicts their meeting.)
  • Eternal Training: Elerosse can, as a swift action, add his Intelligence bonus as an insight bonus to attack and damage rolls against creatures of a chosen type, or can gain access to any one Diamond Mind or Tiger Claw maneuver. These effects last until the end of the encounter, and can only be called upon a certain number of times per day.
  • Guided Strike: As a swift action, Elerosse's blade guide can direct his assault, allowing Elerosse to ignore a single foe's DR for 1 round.
  • Clarity of Vision:  Once per encounter, Elerosse can hone his hunter's senses with a DC 20 Spot check as a swift action. If he succeeds, he pinpoints the location of invisible creatures within 30 feet for 1 round.
  • Twisted Charge: Once per encounter, Elerosse can ignore the straight-line restriction on movement while charging.

Signature Equipment:

  • Talaen Kara, "The Bold Stallion".
    • Elerosse's signature weapon, this mithral double scimitar has seen him through many battles since its (re?)discovery during Meat Gone Bad. The secrets it holds are still being discovered...
    • Talaen Kara is a legacy weapon. Its statistics are shown below. The current legacy penalties are -1 Attack, -4 HP.
  • Crystal Mask of Mindarmor
    • +4 Will.
    • Recovered from Marek during The Showdown. Useful in hiding Elerosse's identity as well as guarding his mind.

Description: This beautiful double scimitar holds the essence of a proud Valenar warhorse, the lifelong companion of a storied Valenar war hero.  When his faithful steed finally fell in battle, he forged this blade so his companion could continue to ride with him into battle.  Each of the scimitar's two blades in engraved: the first bears the stylized image of a horse's head, while second features a flowing horse's tail.  When the weapon is whirled about in battle, these images seem to move and gleam with a silvery light.  The handle is bound with black leather and silver wire, and bears the name of the weapon in Elven script.

History: Beyond the common (i.e. bardic) knowledge listed above, it's hard to obtain reliable information about this weapon's history, almost as if it wants its past to be left alone. While Elerosse discovered the first legacy ritual to awaken the blade by chance, it has taken prolonged psychic effort from Lehatharath to uncover the other two, and not even he can discern the true reason behind their nature.

Nonlegacy Statistics: +1 Mithral Valenar double scimitar.

Omen: When wielded during a charge in battle, the bearer's footsteps thunder like the hooves of heavy cavalry, and the blade glows with a pale silver light when wielded from horseback.

Wielder Requirements: Attack bonus +3, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (Valenar double scimitar), Ride 5 ranks.

Legacy Rituals:

  • Prowess of Valaes Tairn: You must score a critical hit with both of Talaen Kara's blades in the same round against a single creature whose Challenge Rating is equal to or greater than your character level.
    • Cost: 2000 gp, Feat Granted: Least Legacy (Talaen Kara); required for any legacy powers
    • Status: Achieved (vs Living Color Spray in Disco Inferno, among others, but that was the dramatic one).
  • Ancient Enemies: You must defeat at least one of each of the following ancient enemies of the elves of Eberron, using Talaen Kara as your only weapon: Orc, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Ogre, and Troll.  Each of these foes must have a challenge rating of at least your character level -3.
  • Winds in the Desert: In a single day you must ride for at least 8 hours on the Phantom Steed form of Talaen Kara in the Blade Desert, after which you must spend 24 hours in meditation.
    • Cost: 40,000 gp, Feat Granted: Greater Legacy (Talaen Kara); required to advance past level 17
    • Status: Not yet started

Legacy Weapon Abilities:

  • Augmented Weapon Abilities: Talaen Kara's enhancement bonus increases by +1 at 11th, 14th, and 19th levels. At 5th level, Talaen Kara gains the Keen property (critical hit range 15-20). At 17th level, it gains the Valorous property (deals double damage on charge attacks). All of these apply to both of its blades equally. See also Mounted Prowess.
  • Bless (Sp): At 6th level, you can cast the Bless spell as a standard action up to three times per day (caster level 5th).
  • Phantom Steed (Sp): At 7th level, three times per day, you can summon the shadowy spirit essence of Talaen Kara to serve as your mount.  This has the effect of a phantom steed spell at a caster level equal to your character level, except the apparition exhibits the personality of a Valenar warhorse.  At 12th level, you can use this ability at will.
    • (Note: Phantom Steed takes 10 minutes to cast; this ability may be faster as the scene demands.)
  • Mounted Prowess (Su): At 8th level an above, Talaen Kara's enhancement bonus to attack and damage rolls increases by +1 when wielding the weapon from horseback.
  • Burning Blade (Su): At 9th level, up to 3 times per day, you can use the martial boost Burning Blade, at an initiator level equal to half your character level.  If the wielder is a martial adept, they may instead choose to learn Burning Blade as an additional maneuver known. They do not need to meet the prerequisites in order to learn this maneuver. In either case, this maneuver may only be initiated with Talaen Kara.
  • Haste (Sp): At 10th level and above, you can cast the haste spell as a standard action up to two times per day (caster level 8th).
  • Battle Leader's Charge (Ex): At 13th level, up to 3 times per day, you can use the martial strike Battle Leader's Charge, at an initiator level equal to half your character level.  If the wielder is a martial adept they may instead choose to learn Battle Leader's Charge as an additional maneuver known. They do not need to meet the prerequisites in order to learn this maneuver. In either case, this maneuver may only be initiated with Talaen Kara.
  • Blazing Blade (Su): At 15th level and above, the wielder invokes the Blazing Blade maneuver instead of the Burning Blade maneuver.  Martial adepts who chose to learn Burning Blade replace that maneuver known with Blazing Blade.
  • War Leader's Charge (Ex): At 17th level and above, the wielder invokes the War Leader's Charge maneuver instead of Battle Leader's Charge.  Martial adepts who chose to learn Battle Leader's Charge replace that maneuver known with War Leader's Charge.
  • Sandstorm Blade (Ex): At 18th level and above, up to 3 times per day, you can move up to your speed as part of a full attack with Talaen Kara, dividing your attacks up between movement in any way you chose.  If mounted, you may move up to your mount's speed instead.
  • Inferno Blade (Su): At 20th level and above, the wielder invokes the Inferno Blade maneuver instead of the Blazing Blade maneuver.  Martial adepts who chose to learn Burning Blade replace Blazing Blade with Inferno Blade.

Important NPC Connections (At least, that we know about):

  • Kasha’eth "Kasha" Valdiran, the firey Valenar battlemage at one time pursued by Eclipse, is Elerosse's long-lost lover. Due to his amnesia he doesn't remember their storied past, but their present seems bright. She's served an integral role in recovering Elerosse's memories (most dramatically seen during An Evening to Remember, which recounts the history of their relationship).
  • Although it appears to be a dangling hook, Elerosse has unfinished business - and apparently some history, if she is to be believed - with Leeah. Since then, her affiliation with one of the Houses of Shadow (we're not sure which one) has come to light; her role in his future has yet to reveal itself.
  • Pre-reboot, another House of Shadow family member, Ayrendee, recognized Elerosse and expressed some interest in his future, although her orders had her act to foil the team. Her status following the reboot remains unknown (particularly as Elerosse's role has changed dramatically).
  • The assorted aspects of his history found within a subconscious vortex: The Rider is just as Kasha described him, while The Exile and Lord Tassardur have yet to speak. Elsar'kun, on the other hand, seems possessed by an arcane rage, and harbors phenomenal power behind it.
